Week 5: Networking with other bloggers and applying for Adsence

Hello again!  I am back again already with another post on my training progress.  If you are new to my blog, I have been involved in a coaching program that teaches how to build a successful internet marketing business.  If you missed the previous 4 weeks, you may want to start at week 1 so that you are not lost.

This week is all about connecting with other blogging students by networking – commenting on each other’s blogs so that more organic traffic from Google will be driven to our blogs.  We do that by using a special widget created by Dave Nicholson called Widlink.  The purpose of this widget is to link each other’s blogs together by displaying them on a rotating basis on the sidebar.

So the first thing we need to do is download the widget to our desktop, then go to Dashboard > Plugins > Add New > Upload File > then Activate the plugin.

Next go to Appearance > Widgets > Find it in the list, then drag it to our sidebar.  I dropped my widget under my social widget buttons.  Click on Widlinks, then in the drop down menu give it a name in the Title Box.  Choose the number of links; I think 10 is enough.  Then add your name in the Ignore box, so that your name does not show up in the list.  You do not want to link to your own blogs.  Click on Randomize links so that every time the page is refreshed, it will display 10 random links.

Now when you visit your site, you should see 10 links on the sidebar.  Test it out by clicking one of the links.  It should go directly to that person’s blog.  In order for this to work properly, you will have to make sure to register your blog with the administrator of Widlink.  You also need to list your blog on the forum and start commenting on each other’s blog.  The more commenting we do, the more traffic will be driven to our blogs.

The final task we need to do in order to start making some money is to sign up for an Adsense account.  Before you go through the signup process, make sure that you have at least 10 blog posts published.  Google usually will not approve your site for an Adsense account until they see that your blog has a good amount of original content.  Once your account is approved, Google gives you a code that you place on your blog that will display ads relative to your content.  Google crawls your site to learn about the content so that they can display ads that make sense (no pun intended :).  Once a customer clicks on one of the ads  on your site, the owner of the blog will be paid a certain amount depending on the cost per click of the ad.

This method will not make you a lot of money, but it will start generating you some income.  One thing I need to really stress to you.  NEVER…EVER…EVER…CLICK ON ONE OF YOUR OWN ADS!!!!  If you do, it will get you banned from Adsense.  Google is very strict about this and do not try to trick them by getting friends and family to click your ads.  They have sophisticated software that can sniff out violators.  Let me repeat that again:

NEVER…EVER…EVER…CLICK ON ONE OF YOUR OWN ADS!!!!
